The third annual Trey Ennis Lacrosse for Leukemia Tournament is set to take place Nov. 16 and 17. The Warbirds Lacrosse Association will host the memorial tournament to bring awareness to childhood cancer, and raise donations for the Family Support Program and the Trey Ennis Pantry at Duke’s Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant unit.
In May 2017, the Warbirds lost their teammate and friend, Trey, to leukemia. With support from Jordan High School in Durham, the Warbirds Lacrosse Association has organized an annual tournament for local lacrosse programs, bringing together nearby communities to help support families with a loved one undergoing cancer treatment.
Known as “No. 14” to his teammates, Ennis was a dynamic young man who left behind a positive mark on every life he touched. Jordan High School varsity lacrosse coach Mike Ricucci came up with the idea of remembering Ennis by launching a lacrosse tournament in his honor. He felt it was the best way to honor his former player and all those left behind who knew and loved him.
